A gentle solution when a tooth can't be saved
Sometimes a tooth reaches a point where holding on causes more harm than letting go. It takes a couple of minutes, you won't feel it, and most people are surprised by how straightforward it is.

Common reasons for a tooth extraction
Removing a tooth is always a last resort. We'll only ever recommend it when keeping the tooth would do more harm than good, and we'll explain exactly why before anything is decided.
Decay beyond repair: When a tooth has gone past the point where a filling or crown can save it, removing it stops the damage spreading.
Cracked or broken teeth: A tooth that has cracked deep below the gumline often can't be repaired, and removing it prevents further pain and infection.
Infection or abscess: If an infection can't be cleared with root canal treatment or antibiotics, removal is often the safest way to protect your health.
Crowding: Sometimes a tooth needs to come out to create space, particularly to prepare the mouth before orthodontic treatment.
Impacted wisdom teeth: Wisdom teeth that can't break through properly cause pain and damage to neighbouring teeth. Removing them brings real relief.
Gentle care, every step of the way
Unhurried, gentle care from start to finishA proper look first
We'll examine the tooth and usually take an X-ray, so we understand exactly what we're dealing with before anything happens. We'll talk you through your options and answer any questions.
Numbing the area
We'll gently numb the tooth and the area around it with local anaesthetic, so you won't feel any pain during the procedure, just a little pressure. We won't start until you're completely ready.
Removing the tooth
With careful, steady movements we'll ease the tooth out. It's usually quicker than people expect. We'll keep checking in with you throughout, and you can raise your hand to pause at any point.
Settling the socket
We'll make sure the area is clean and place a little gauze to help a clot form. Then we'll talk you through how to look after it at home, so healing goes smoothly.

Healing after your tooth extraction
Most people heal quickly and comfortably. Here's how recovery tends to go, day by day, and the simple things that make all the difference.

Rest and take it easy
Avoid strenuous activity for the rest of the day. Keeping your head a little raised helps any swelling settle.
Protect the clot
Avoid rinsing, spitting, smoking or drinking through a straw, so the healing clot stays put and recovery starts well.
Eat gently
Stick to soft foods and lukewarm drinks at first, and chew on the other side of your mouth while it heals.
Ease any soreness
A little discomfort is normal. Over-the-counter pain relief usually does the trick, and a warm salt-water rinse helps keep things clean.
Call us if you're worried
